Global research snapshots · 4–5 Oct 2026

Find the keyword shape before you build the tool.

18 established categories, 20 measured benchmarks, a 169-site niche research directory, 35 distinct tool concepts and 100 ready modifiers mapped across 25 search-pattern families. Use them to express task, outcome, speed, privacy, scale, format, platform, audience, country and language—then validate the combinations before building.

01 / Landscape

Tool markets that already exist

Search by category, sub-type, or a known site. The names below are examples identified in the research—not a current ranking table.

18 categories
02 / Site benchmarks

20 tool sites worth studying

A sortable benchmark list using the DR and ST figures supplied for this research set. Metrics are preserved exactly as provided; working destinations are linked, while unresolved sites can be copied for later checking.

03 / Research directory

169 niche tool sites for deeper research

A new shortlist of small and focused tool websites across 14 research categories. Search by feature or domain, filter by category, and open any result for competitor, keyword, UX and monetization research.

169 sites

Research scope: all 169 entries are new versus the earlier 49-site set. “—” means no public traffic signal was found, not zero traffic. Self-reported metrics are labelled and should be independently checked before making a build decision.

04 / Opportunity library

35 sharper tool ideas to explore

Problem-first concepts beyond the usual converter and calculator lists. Filter by market, then use each keyword angle as a seed—not as a demand or competition claim.

How to use this library: choose a painful, repeatable task; verify its SERP intent and demand; then build the smallest useful output before expanding into a cluster.

05 / Modifier taxonomy

100 modifiers for micro-tool keywords

Ten practical groups with ten distinct modifiers each. Search, filter, or copy the full bank; then use the 25 pattern families below to place them naturally around your tool topic.

100-modifier bank

Replace [tool] with your core topic—for example PDF converter, EMI calculator, or schema checker.

100 modifiers

25 pattern families

Modifiers become useful when the phrase matches a real constraint, audience, platform, problem or desired outcome.

Build a keyword matrix

Combine one seed with intent, access, audience and region. These are idea combinations—not search-volume claims. Validate them before choosing pages.

24 combinations

Next step: check SERP intent, real demand, competition, localization, and whether one page can satisfy multiple close variants.

    06 / Regional demand

    Same pattern, local decision

Finance and conversion keywords are especially locale-sensitive. Currency direction, tax terms and legal constructs change with the searcher’s market.

    India

    • EMI calculator
    • SIP calculator
    • GST calculator
    • CTC to in-hand salary calculator
    • CGPA to percentage converter

    United Kingdom

    • stamp duty calculator
    • take home pay calculator
    • Council Tax calculator
    • ISA calculator

    United States

    • mortgage calculator
    • APR calculator
    • 401k calculator
    • take-home pay calculator

    Locale-aware

    • USD to INR
    • GBP to EUR
    • USD to PHP
    • date duration calculator
    • business-days variants
Research note: Currency-pair direction tends to follow the searcher’s home currency; date and number formats also follow locale. The report did not provide market-level volumes, so no regional popularity order is implied here.
    07 / Country × language

Localize the problem, not just the words

Choose a market and one of its useful search languages. Each playbook gives native-language starter phrases, country-specific tool themes, and formatting checks to validate before building.

Native phrases are brainstorming seeds, not verified demand. Check autocomplete, SERPs, terminology, and legal accuracy with a local reviewer.

Localization checklist: use the right currency symbol and grouping, decimal separator, date format, units, spelling, tax vocabulary and legal disclaimers. Keep each language on a stable URL and add reciprocal hreflang only after equivalent pages exist.
08 / From idea to page

    Validate before you publish

The research identifies patterns and real examples. It does not prove a keyword’s volume, difficulty, ranking position, or legal suitability for your project.

    STEP 01

    Choose a task

Start with the user’s job: calculate, convert, compress, check, create, compare or plan.

    STEP 02

    Layer constraints

Add format, access, audience, platform and location only where they change the required output.

    STEP 03

    Inspect intent

Check whether search results reward a working tool, guide, list, comparison, app page, or mixed experience.

    STEP 04

    Cluster carefully

Keep close variants together when one page can satisfy them; split only when intent or output is meaningfully different.

Open questions from the research: Exact traffic shares for most tool sites were not verified; positions can rotate by market; examples are prominent sites, not guaranteed #1 results. Download-focused video tools were excluded because the available evidence was high-churn and legally unclear. The remove.bg standalone site was reported as scheduled to close on 1 Dec 2026, so treat it as a time-sensitive example.
    09 / Provenance

    Research sources

    Snapshot dates: 4–5 October 2026.

The category and keyword source report was built from web-index results. The 169-site directory was separately compiled from six research clusters; 17 URLs were spot-checked on 5 October. Links are carried verbatim from those research files.

    169-site niche directory
    • 169 new sites across 14 categories, deduplicated against the earlier 49-site research set.
    • Public signals are labelled as self-reported or reported; “—” means no public figure was found.
    • 17 URLs were spot-checked on 5 October 2026: 16 loaded and matched their descriptions; one timed out after appearing in indexed results.
